Passengers offered 7+ hour bus ride after WestJet cancels flight
CA, 01 Mar 2023
Musician Chris Henderson received a surprising email from WestJet on Monday when he arrived in Calgary on his way home to Regina. Due to unplanned maintenance, Henderson's plane was delayed and WestJet had offered to exchange his 90-minute flight for a seven-and-a-half-hour bus ride to Regina.
Henderson added that WestJet's offer did not include compensation for the inconvenience. He refused to take the bus, waited on customer service for an hour and was able to secure a different flight to Regina. However, this was not the case for travellers like the Matheson family, who were returning home from Cancun. The Matheson family had no choice but to take the long bus ride home to Regina which arrived at 2 o'clock in the morning.
Henderson took to social media to bring the issue to the public and WestJet's attention. His Tweet has since gone viral.
Connor O'Donnovan reports on the response WestJet provided to the Matheson family and Henderson's plans for future travelling.
