Family members of victims of the deadly football stadium stampede in Indonesia have criticised the acquittal of two policemen linked to the tragedy. The court decision, handed down on March 16, 2023, cleared the pair of any wrongdoing in the October 2022 stampede, which claimed the lives of around 135 people. Indonesia’s human right commission found that the police decision to fire tear gas to disperse the crowds was the primary trigger for the worst football match tragedy since 1964.
