Japan and South Korea pledged to resume reciprocal leaders’ visits that have been suspended for 12 years, as South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Tokyo on March 16, 2023. The two Asian neighbours are seeking to overcome wartime disputes and reboot defence and economic ties amid growing military threats by North Korea. Pyongyang test-fired another intercontinental ballistic missile just hours before Yoon started his two-day Japan visit.
