French protesters and police clash after Macron forces through pension age rise

Thousands of people protested in Paris after the French president, Emmanuel Macron, avoided a parliamentary vote and used special constitutional powers to force through a rise in the pension age from 62 to 64.

Police fired teargas and water cannon and charged at demonstrators in an effort to disperse the crowd on Thursday night, as some protesters started fires threw cobblestones. Around 120 people were arrested.
