The former Business Secretary minister was speaking to political correspondent Ali Fortescue after the ERG recommended its members vote against Rishi Sunak's plan to resolve issues with the Northern Ireland Protocol.

Mr Rees-Mogg said: "I will be voting against it because I think the problem with the framework is that it solidifies the protocol, which has problems in it".

He added that he is concerned that the proposed "green lane" for goods travelling between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK could be closed by the EU at any point.
