HSBC employee Punit Mehrotra planned to bring his father from India to Hong Kong, after he relocated to the city in 2020. But only a few months later, his father passed away. While still in mourning, Punit heard about a volunteering opportunity for his company’s “Share Your Dreams” initiative, in partnership with the Agency for Volunteer Service. The programme aimed to fulfil the dreams of deprived elderly people and children suffering from rare diseases in Hong Kong. Through the project, Punit met an elderly woman who had always loved painting, and helped her fulfil her lifelong dream of putting together an exhibition of her artworks. Despite the language barrier, the two formed a deep bond through the initiative, reminding Punit of what his father had taught him about the importance of human connections.
