Trucker protests: Freeland, other Canadian ministers speak amid police operation in Ottawa | LIVE
CA, 18 Feb 2022
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland will hold a media availability Friday, alongside President of the Queen's Privy Council and Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair, Attorney General and Justice Minister David Lametti and Public Safety Minister Marco Mendocino.
The press conference comes amid a police push to clear out the trucker convoy that has been encamped for 22 days in Ottawa, with police warning of significant numbers of officers on the ground.
Parliament nixed plans for both the House of Commons and Senate to meet Friday over the Emergencies Act invocation, with House leaders expressing security concerns.
Police formally confirmed the arrest of convoy organizer Tamara Lich on Friday morning after video emerged of her being taken into custody on Thursday night. She is charged with counselling to commit the offence of mischief, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
