Ukraine and Russia's historic ties shed clues on Putin's endgame

Russian President Vladimir Putin seems adamant about invading Ukraine, so what's possibly fuelling his mindset?

Putin believes modern Ukraine was entirely created by Russia, and is an integral part of their culture, with historical ties that go back centuries - cultural, economic, religious, and political.

His version allows Ukraine's national boundaries to be erased, rationalized in part by the Russian ethnicity of many people in Ukraine.

Eric Sorensen explains how the two nations' ties factor into Putin's intentions, and how his perspective clashes with the rest of the world.
