U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned President Vladimir Putin's "barbaric" decision to invade Ukraine and unveiled the "largest and most severe economic sanctions Russia has ever seen" on Thursday.

Speaking to parliament, he concluded Putin's intentions were always to invade no matter the attempted diplomatic resolutions, calling him "a bloodstain aggressor who believes in imperial conquest."

The economic sanctions would target banks, members of President Vladimir Putin's closest circle and the extremely wealthy who enjoy high-rolling London lifestyles.

Speaking to parliament, Johnson said Putin would be condemned by the world and by history for his invasion, never able to cleanse the "blood of Ukraine" from his hands.
