An outdoor concert in Lviv was cut short as air raid sirens sounded – and soon afterwards the city was hit by missiles.
Lviv, in the west of Ukraine, is about 40 miles from the Polish border. It has so far been spared the fighting and devastation of cities closer to Russia.
But smoke could be seen above the city after the missiles struck. The attack came as US President Joe Biden wrapped up a visit to Poland.
