The first phase of the central government-aided emergency hospital in Lok Ma Chau was completed and handed over to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on April 7 to help curb an Omicron variant-driven outbreak of COVID-19 in the city.
The complex, which covers an area of 283,100 square meters, comprises a hospital, isolation wards and supporting facilities for daily life.
Construction of the first phase of the hospital complex began on March 6 and was completed in 30 days. The 167,900 square-meter facility consists of 500 negative pressure beds, including 32 intensive care unit beds and two operating rooms.
