Self-iceolation: Shinto believers bathe in chilly water

After performing warming-up exercises, 20 brave men dressed only in loincloths bathed in and poured freezing water over themselves in an annual ceremony to honor the gods of good fortune. The traditional Japanese ritual is performed as part of the Daikoku festival. It is believed to bring the participants good luck and cleanse their souls.
