St. Francis Xavier University outbreak: Latest update on COVID-19 situation at StFX | LIVE
CA, 11 Dec 2021
Nova Scotia's chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang is expected to provide an update Friday on the COVID-19 outbreak related to St. Francis Xavier University.
Testing is being expanded at the school as 38 new cases connected to the outbreak were announced Thursday, bringing the total to 59 active cases.
After concerns from students and faculty, the school also announced Wednesday that faculty could decide to proceed with in-person exams or move them online as a "hybrid model." Students can also defer until January.
Strang previously said the cluster was related to the university's recent ceremony of giving rings to the graduating class, as well as social events held on and around campus over the weekend. He added those infected are so far experiencing very mild symptoms because the cases are mostly among young, fully-vaccinated people.
But Public Health says the majority of cases have been tied to "smaller, private gatherings."
