Tropical storm Ana: Homes destroyed, roads wiped out in Mozambique and Malawi

Tropical storm Ana tore through east Africa this week, flooding homes and wiping out roads in Mozamqique and Malawi.

Cecilia Banda from the Malawi Red Cross Society said the electricity in Chikwawa, Malawi had been cut off since Jan. 24 and that a major road leading in to the town had been wiped out, leaving residents stuck.

In the Mozambican city of Tete, at least 20 people have been killed since the storm made landfall on Monday.

The region in East Africa has been repeatedly struck by severe storms and cyclones in recent years, destroying homes and infrastructure and displacing large numbers of people.
