Trucker protests: Winnipeg police update after hit-and-run incident near Manitoba legislature | LIVE

CA, 05 Feb 2022
Winnipeg Police are expected to provide an update Saturday on a hit-and-run incident that occurred Friday night near Manitoba's legislature during a protest against public health measures and in support of the protesters currently in Ottawa.

Mayor Brian Bowman said he recognizes the pandemic has been “difficult for all Canadians” and urged “patience and understanding” from both the protesters and Winnipeggers who might be impacted by the demonstration.

The city’s police Chief Danny Smyth said the department has “an open dialogue” with organizers. Responding to a question asking about comparisons between the protest in Winnipeg and the one in Ottawa, he said that was “not a fair comparison” to make.
