US Justice Department, Attorney General Garland to announce anti-hate crime initiatives | LIVE
CA, 20 May 2022
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department are expected to announce policy initiatives on Friday to help deter and confront hate crimes, as well as bias-related incidents.
This follows the mass shooting that took place in Buffalo, N.Y. last Saturday.
An 18-year-old white teenager has been accused of opening fire with a semi-automatic rifle in a predominantly Black neighbourhood of Buffalo.
Authorities say he carried out an act of "racially motivated violent extremism" at the Tops Friendly Market, when he shot 13 people. A total of 10 people died and three were injured. The teenager has been jailed without bail on a charge of first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty.
