First Russian soldier to go on trial in Ukraine for war crimes arrives in court

A Ukrainian court has begun hearing the first war crimes case arising from the Russian invasion after charging a captured soldier with the murder of a 62-year-old civilian.

The Kyiv district court's website identified the soldier on trial as Vadim Shysimarin and said he was accused of 'violations of the laws and norms of war'. He faces up to life imprisonment over the killing in the north-east Ukrainian village of Chupakhivka on 28 February.
