The US National Science Foundation (NSF) is holding a news conference in Washington, D.C. on Thursday to announce a "groundbreaking" Milky Way galaxy discovery from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) employed to observe supermassive black holes.

The researchers are part of the EHT international collaboration that unveiled the first-ever photo of a black hole in 2019.

They have been concentrating recently on the black hole called Sagittarius A*, or SgrA*, at the heart of the Milky Way.
