Ukraine sentences Russian soldier to life in prison in first war crimes trial
CA, 24 May 2022
Three months into repelling Russia's invasion, Ukraine has now sentenced the first Russian soldier convicted with committing war crimes in the conflict.
This comes as the slow and bloody battles for land continue across Ukraine's east, and President Volodymr Zelenskyy says his forces may be losing between 50 and 100 troops a day.
Addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Zelenskyy also appealed for increased and coordinated sanctions against Russia.
Redmond Shannon reports on the punishment tank commander Vadim Shishimarin, 21, received; and the fresh appeals in Davos to further isolate Russia.
