US President Joe Biden said he is committed to militarily defend Taiwan. At a press conference in Japan on May 23, 2022, Biden was asked if the US was willing to defend the self-ruled island given Washington’s decision not to be involved in the Ukraine-Russia war. Biden replied, “Yes, that’s the commitment we made”. China has hit back, warning the US to be “careful with your words”.
