China's Foreign Minister #WangYi co-chaired the second China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Fiji on May 30, much to the annoyance of some Western politicians peddling the "China threat" in the region. The Hub with Wang Guan looks at China's engagement with the Pacific Island countries (PICs) and talks to Li Yanliang, assistant research fellow at the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies, and to Daryl Guppy, independent economic & political analyst, to alleviate concerns in the West, especially in the U.S. and Australia. Guppy notes that following Australia's elections in May, Canberra's foreign policy might steer a middle course and favor diplomatic engagement with China on PICs.
