'As I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault,' Biden said in his speech at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. 'So tonight, I’ve come to this place where it all began to speak as plainly as I can to the nation, about the threats we face, about the power we have in our own hands to meet these threats, and about the incredible future that lies in front of us.'
Caveating with 'not every Republican' is an extremist, Biden singled out the threat from 'Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans'. 'Democracy endures only if we the people respect the guardrails of the Republic,' Biden said. 'Democracy cannot survive when one side believes there are only two outcomes to an election: either they win, or they were cheated'
