Liz Truss, Britain's new prime minister, is travelling to Scotland today to see Queen Elizabeth before appointing a new team of ministers to tackle an economic crisis and draw her deeply divided party together. Truss defeated rival Rishi Sunak in a vote of Conservative Party members on Monday and will inherit one of the most daunting in-trays of any new leader, with Britain on course to enter a lengthy recession due to surging inflation. For more analysis on Britain's changing of the guard, FRANCE 24 is joined by Denzil Davidson, Special adviser at the Conservative Party and the EU Institutions Director at the Global Counsel. He says that Britain's new PM "faces an immediate storm that she's going to have to grapple with, a storm of the coming cost-of-living crisis, and the economic problems ahead. And so her first weeks are going to be crucial for her whole premiership." Now whether Truss's regimen of tax cuts and deregulation will be the catalyst for growth "remains to be seen."
