Queen Elizabeth’s death on September 8, 2022, set in motion a carefully orchestrated accession plan known as “Operation London Bridge”. Decades in the planning, the procedures specify details about how national mourning and anointing King Charles as the new monarch will be conducted. The new king’s accession has been planned under the separately named “Operation Spring Tide”.
