When the night sky is about to be lit with the soft hue of the full moon, it's a welcome sign of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The glow of lanterns, savory and sweet mooncakes, and a moonlit night will mark the celebrations for the second biggest Chinese holiday of the year, after the Spring Festival. It is celebrated on the night when the moon is at its fullest and brightest – on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, which falls on September 10 this year. It’s a tradition rooted in celebration of a good harvest and family reunions. Chinese people have celebrated the festival and the full moon for thousands of years, gathering with loved ones. What’s unique about this holiday is that mooncakes are the star of the table. Other traditions include paying respects to the moon and offering sacrifices like fresh fruits. To know more about Mid-Autumn traditions, CGTN host Tian Wei brings you "From the Moon to the Heart", a Mid-Autumn Festival Special.
