Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared to change his rhetoric on Friday regarding the war in Ukraine — just hours after telling Indian Prime Minister that they would do "everything" to stop the fighting as soon as possible, he told reporters the situation could get more serious — with a smirk.

Earlier Friday, Putin added that Ukraine's leadership has refused talks and wanted to "reach their goals militarily."

However, a few hours later in front of journalists, Putin spoke about Ukraine's recent counter-offensive operation, warning what could happen if Russia's troops were put under further pressure.

"We'll see how it goes and how it ends," Putin said with a smirk.

He also said that Russia was gradually taking control of new areas of Ukraine and there were no plans to change what he has called a "special military operation."
