RESCUERS HAVE EVACUATED STUNNED SURVIVORS CUT OFF BY HURRICANE IAN ON FLORIDA'S LARGEST BARRIER ISLAND.
THE STATE'S DEATH TOLL HAS RISEN SHARPLY AMID RECOVERY EFFORTS. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS ARE STILL WITHOUT POWER.
BRAZILIANS ARE VOTING IN A HIGHLY POLARIZED ELECTION THAT COULD DETERMINE IF THE COUNTRY RETURNS A LEFTIST TO THE HELM.

POLICE FIRING TEAR GAS AFTER AN INDONESIAN SOCCER MATCH IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP VIOLENCE TRIGGERED A DISASTROUS CRUSH OF FANS.
THE INCIDENT LEFT AT LEAST 125 DEAD AS ATTENTION FOCUSED ON POLICE CROWD-CONTROL MEASURES. FIFA CALLED THE DEATHS "A DARK DAY FOR ALL

HUNDREDS OF HOT AIR BALLOONS LIFTED OFF THIS WEEKEND MARKING THE START OF THE ALBUQUERQUE INTERNATIONAL BALLOON FIESTA.
THIS YEARS FIESTA MARKS 50 YEARS OF ONE OF THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED EVENTS IN THE WORLD. THE FIRST EVENT WAS IN 1972 WITH 13 BALLOONS.
