Across eastern Canada, residents are cleaning up debris after post-tropical storm Fiona tore through the area, leaving destruction in its wake.

One of the hardest hit areas was Port aux Basques, on Newfoundland’s western edge.

Port aux Basques was built to withstand storms, with houses constructed right into the bedrock. But as Fiona passed through, the storm surge brought massive waves that washed homes into the sea.
