Worshippers clash with riot police outside historic mosque in China

Muslim protestors surrounded a 13th century mosque to stop it being torn down by authorities in a rare display of defiance in China’s Yunnan province.
Hundreds of police in riot gear earlier fought back members of the Hui ethnic group in Najiaying village, Yunnan province, who had rallied around the Najiaying Mosque after residents reported the arrival of cranes to demolish it.
Residents threw rocks at police who responded by hitting them with batons.
