Residents of Washington, D.C., gathered to watch the first public hearing by a congressional committee investigating last year's mob assault on the U.S. Capitol. The event held on the lawn across from the Capitol was organized by the "Not Above the Law" coalition. The House panel laid the blame squarely with Donald Trump, saying the assault was hardly spontaneous, but rather an "attempted coup" and the direct result of the defeated president's efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
