Angry protests continue in Muslim communities across Bangladesh, India, the Middle East, Pakistan and parts of Asia directed at two Indian politicians who made remarks considered derogatory to Islam’s Prophet Mohammed. A spokeswoman for India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nupur Sharma, is under fire for comments made during a televised debate in May, while fellow party member Naveen Jindal later made remarks on social media that were deemed sensitive. In northeast India, police have reportedly taken steps to control the tense situation, and in a city in West Bengal, public gatherings are banned until June 16. In Uttar Pradesh, officials demolished homes of people accused of involvement in riots last week.
