U.S. President Joe Biden will speak about the decision to approve COVID-19 shots for infants, toddlers and preschoolers -- the last group without access to the vaccine.

Advisers to the CDC unanimously decided last week that COVID-19 vaccines should be open to children as young as six months, with the final sign-off coming from the agency's director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

The shots, which are being rolled out this week, protect young children from hospitalization, death and possible long-term complications from COVID-19.

Roughly 18 million kids will be eligible for the shot in the U.S., but it's still unclear how many will get the vaccines. Less than a third of children aged 5 to 11 have done so since vaccinations opened to them last November.
